This family is another that I have been lucky enough to capture their milestones, special moments, and now their newest addition to the family – a baby girl! Mom and Dad didn’t want to find out the gender of the baby ahead of time, so when she arrived they were surprised and excited to welcome another daughter. Her big sister is very proud as well! I loved seeing the two sisters together. It reminded me of seeing photos of my sister and myself when we were little. Actually, this sweet baby girl was born on my sister’s birthday!
I enjoyed every moment of this session. I hope you love it too!
The first time I met this lovely little lady, she was only two months old! Even though the past year was full of changes and growing, one thing remains the same – she is just beautiful! For her one year portraits, we started off at Hartwood Acres Mansion and finished with a smash cake at home with big sister and Grandma.
Enjoy this brand new one year old baby girl! 🙂
Brooke + Gwynn | Pittsburgh Engagement Portrait Photographer – Engagement Photo Session | Emily Hixon Photography
Not too long ago, I received an email from a high school classmate of mine. Brooke and I played softball together when we were little girls as well. Time goes by so quickly! When Brooke told me that she was engaged and looking for a wedding photographer, I was honored that she thought of me. After meeting with her and her fiancé, Gwynn, I was excited to be a part of their wedding day.
These two really love each other. For their engagement session, they brought along the other love of their lives: Scout. Scout is a rescue dog. Gwynn and Brooke rescued her a few years back. Now, they cannot imagine life without her. With the help of Brooke’s mom, we got some really great shots of these three. What a fun engagement session!
I cannot wait to photograph their September 2013 wedding! Enjoy.
I have been anxiously awaiting this baby’s arrival since this summer when his mom and I first spoke about photographing his first year. In September, I met this baby boy’s mom and dad for maternity portraits. I could just tell how loved this little baby was before he was even born. His mom and dad are absolutely thrilled to be parents. Photographing the first year of this baby’s life is going to be wonderful!
Meet their precious baby boy.
Megan + Shawn | Pittsburgh Engagement Portrait Photographer – Engagement Photo Session | Emily Hixon Photography
Megan and Shawn are one of the couples whose wedding I will be photographing in 2013! As soon as I met them, I knew they were going to be fun to get to know throughout the upcoming year. They seemed more like friends than anything to me almost immediately. Their engagement session was great! We were extremely lucky. You never know what to expect in December. The day of their session came and the forecast was calling for rain. Thankfully, the sun was shining until just moments after the session ended and the rain began to fall! It was nearly 60 degrees for their “winter” engagement portraits.
I am super excited to be a part of this couple’s special day in July. Until then, enjoy these lovely engagement portraits! 🙂
These three kiddos were great to photograph! They are cousins and but more importantly friends. The two older children are brother and sister. The younger little guy is their cousin. It was fun to watch these three in action. That morning, there was a lot of giggling and smiling. Take a look, the photos speak for themselves.
Little Miss Christmas | Pittsburgh Child Portrait Photographer – Child Photo Session | Emily Hixon Photography
Last week, I met this little lady and her mom at their house for a Christmas-themed mini session. It was a bit cold and rainy that afternoon so with only a few moments for outdoor portraits, we headed inside where her dogs joined in on the fun. Somehow (with Goldfish Crackers), we managed to get the three to sit still just long enough to snap a photo!
Love Multiplies | Pittsburgh Family and Child Portrait Photographer – Family Photo Session | Emily Hixon Photography
I have had such a great time seeing so many families that I haven’t seen for either months or even a year! It is really exciting to watch each family change and grow. I am truly honored when a family returns for more portraits.
Last year, I met this family for the first time to take some holiday photos. I am sure you have seen their family portrait around on my Facebook page or on here for my mini session advertisements. Their love for one another and their happiness definitely shows! One of the many reasons for their happiness is that they are expecting a baby this spring! I am thrilled for them. The next time I see them, they will be a family of four. Until then . . .
Working on the Railroad | Pittsburgh Child Portrait Photographer – Child Photo Session | Emily Hixon Photography
This little guy just turned two! His birthday was on Thanksgiving this year. Right now, he is all about trains – specifically Thomas! For his session, we headed to the railroad. Although we didn’t see any trains, he did not seem at all disappointed. A little bribery (Goldfish crackers) and his favorite toy (Thomas) made him forget that he was even being photographed. Wait until you see the last photo of him climbing and reaching for a Goldfish cracker on top of a concrete slab.
Check out this brand new two year old 🙂
Pictures with Emily | Pittsburgh Child Portrait Photographer – Child Photo Session | Emily Hixon Photography
A few weeks ago, I met with little Miss Ella and her mom! The last time I saw Ella was early spring of this year. It is amazing how much she has grown over the last several months! She went from a baby to a little girl so quickly! When her mom told her that I was taking her pictures, she said she wanted to make a drawing for me. It has to be the most adorable “client” gift I have ever received. She was so excited about having her pictures taken that she went home and said to her dad when she walked in the door “Dad, pictures with Emily!!” I can’t wait to see Ella, her mom and dad again soon when they welcome their new baby!
Don’t you love this?? 🙂

Don’t you just love this time of year? 🙂
It is that special time of year once again. A time when family and friends are near, laughter fills the air and love fills our hearts. The holidays are always a wonderful reminder of what is truly important in life. If you have the privilege to spend today eating a beautiful meal with those people who mean the most, count your blessings. We often forget just how fortunate we are to have the chance to give thanks for all that we have today and every day.
Not only am I thankful for being able to live in this country with all of these great modern day conveniences, I am thankful for many things. Today and all other days of the year, I am thankful for my family and husband-to-be, Scott. Without their love and support, I would not be where I am in my life.
I am also thankful for my dog and little buddy, Speck. He is fun, loving and full of life!
Although I am not thankful for having type 1 diabetes, I am thankful for the available treatment that keeps me alive every single day! My insulin pump is my lifesaver.
Finally, I am thankful for being able to do what I love and love what I do! My biggest thanks goes out to all of YOU who make this dream a reality. Thank you!! As part of my appreciation, I would like to offer a giveaway to celebrate the holiday and to celebrate reaching over 500 fans on my Facebook page!
I am off to spend time with my family and eat delicious food like this yummy apple pie homemade by my sister, Natalie! She makes everything from scratch and is taking orders for Christmas 😉

At the Top of the Hill | Pittsburgh Family and Child Portrait Photographer – Family Photo Session | Emily Hixon Photography
I met this family for the first time one year ago. It is amazing how much changes in such a short period of time! Since we last met, they have had a baby and moved to a new home! Needless to say, it has been an exciting and whirlwind year for them. We met for a mini session recently at a local park. I was very excited to meet their newest addition to the family! This adorable baby boy was unbelievably calm and alert (just wait until you see his full head of hair and big blue eyes)! His big brother absolutely adores him and their mom and dad could not be happier.
Achoo | Pittsburgh Family and Child Portrait Photographer – Family Photo Session | Emily Hixon Photography
I just adore this family. They are equally as beautiful on the inside as they are on the outside! You may remember them from some of my previous posts. I was excited to see them again for a fun fall mini session on yet another comfortable fall day. It was hard to believe how much their little guy has grown over the past year! He already seems like such a little guy who is full of life and energy! Every time we wanted a smile from him, we faked a sneeze (achoo!). Can’t wait to see this family again in the spring!
Sweet Sisters | Pittsburgh Child Portrait Photographer – Child Photo Session | Emily Hixon Photography
Have you ever really wanted to do something but found that no matter how much you try something keeps you from getting there? That’s exactly what happened with this session. After rescheduling three times, we finally made this session happen! The stars aligned and everything went smoothly! Not only are these two sisters just gorgeous, they are so much fun. With the help of their awesome mom, we had a fantastic session! Enough from me, the photos speak for themselves!
Golden Glow | Pittsburgh Family Portrait Photographer – Family Photo Session | Emily Hixon Photography
My job has to be one of the best in the entire world. I am truly blessed to be able to meet and photograph so many beautiful, kind and loving people! It never gets old. This family session was fun and full of energy. These two kiddos kept mom, dad and myself on the go! The golden setting sun and the colorful leaves on the trees were to die for on that cozy fall evening. One word for these portraits – love.
At the Lake | Deep Creek Family Portrait Photographer – Family Photo Session | Emily Hixon Photography
Not too long ago, I was in Deep Creek, MD for some late summer family portraits! It was my first time there. Who would have thought that I would be making another trip for family portraits in Deep Creek again less than three months later!? Last time, I went with Scott. This time, I brought my sister Natalie. I feel as though I keep repeating myself by boasting about the nice weather, but I have had some good luck with sessions this fall! It was about 70 degrees on this day at the end of October. Too bad it can’t stay like that all year round!
Enjoy another beautiful family! 🙂
This last minute session was a lot of fun! The leaves were really starting to change and the weather was perfect. We went to North Park’s Boathouse for some pretty fall portraits of this baby girl and her mama. These two ladies live in Texas but came back to PA to visit with family and enjoy some of the foliage. After searching high and low for the perfect fall tree, we came across the most beautiful one with vibrant yellow leaves!
Enjoy these two pretty ladies! 🙂
Down on the Farm | Pittsburgh Senior Portrait Photographer – Senior Photo Session | Emily Hixon Photography
Emily’s senior portrait session was on a gorgeous, hot fall day! Who would have thought at the end of October in southwestern PA we would have an 80 degree day?! Poor Emily so desperately wanted to wear her fall sweaters, boots, and jacket but paid the price to do so! You would never know the difference from her photos because she looks just perfect.
Enjoy another senior beauty! 🙂
Fall in the Country | Pittsburgh Family Portrait Photographer – Family Photo Session | Emily Hixon Photography
On a chilly but sunny fall morning not so long ago, I met with this absolutely gorgeous family. We had been planning this fall photo session for quite some time, so I knew it was going to be wonderful! For the session, we went to Mingo Creek County Park. The leaves were just perfectly turned and the sun was shining brightly through the trees. The kids seemed to have a blast playing in the leaves and exploring the park while their mom and dad helped to keep the smiles coming for the photos! Wait until you see their beautiful fall outfits!
Falling in Love | Pittsburgh Engagement Portrait Photographer – Engagement Photo Session | Emily Hixon Photography
Renee and Jess are such an awesome couple. I met them back in May to discuss photographing their wedding next year. As soon as we sat down to talk, I could immediately tell that they were great not just as a couple but also individually. They mentioned at our initial meeting that they wanted fall photos. I am so glad that they waited until the leaves changed for their portraits! It was a blast photographing these two. Can’t wait to photograph their upcoming wedding next May!
Enjoy this fantastic couple! 🙂
Beauty on the Hill | Pittsburgh Senior Portrait Photographer – Senior Photo Session | Emily Hixon Photography
When I met Sam and her mom, I knew we were going to have a fun session! Sam is currently in her senior year of high school. We hit it off right away with a common interest – photography! She is an excellent photographer with a creative eye. Her session was on one of those beautiful fall days we had just recently. We had so much fun finding interesting areas to take her photos while trying to avoid the snakes that were supposedly lurking nearby (there were signs everywhere warning of snakes!).
Enjoy another gorgeous senior girl! 🙂
Good Day, Sunshine | Pittsburgh Family Portrait Photographer – Fall Family Photo Session | Emily Hixon Photography
Last weekend was filled with photo sessions! It was a perfect fall weekend for portraits. When I last saw this family, it was early in the spring. Doesn’t time just fly? Even though it was definitely a chilly morning, it was clear and sunny. I loved photographing these three. See why below:
Little Pumpkins | Pittsburgh Family Portrait Photographer – Fall Family Photo Session | Emily Hixon Photography
The last time I saw this family, I had a great time photographing these two sweet sisters at home. When their mom contacted me about a fall family session, I was thrilled! The morning of the session, I woke up to a surprise rain shower! Thankfully, the morning clouds cleared and the sun started shining by early in the afternoon. You will just love this beautiful family.
